Baggage Policies

Carry On Policy: Northwest Airlines allows 1 carry ons per passenger. Details: Northwest allows you to carry one piece of luggage on board the aircraft plus a purse or briefcase or laptop computer or small backpack. The carry-on luggage must be of a size and shape to allow for storage in overhead compartments or underneath the seat in front of you.
Checked Baggage Policy: Northwest Airlines allows 0 carry ons per passenger. Details: Each ticketed passenger is allowed one (1) piece of checked luggage for a fee of USD $15 each-way and a second pieced of checked luggage for a fee of USD $25 each-way. Third and subsequent pieces will be assessed a fee of USD $100 per piece each-way.

Food Service

FOR ECONOMY CLASS
Snacks: The a la carte buy-on-board food has replaced complimentary meals for domestic Coach Class customers. Snacks for purchase include: Pringles, Snack Mix, M&Ms and Twizzlers.
Meal Service: Northwest Airlines offers snack items and snack boxes for your enjoyment on board many of our flights. Flights to/from the West Coast feature fruit and cheese or vegetables with Ranch dressing. The fruit and cheese platter or vegetable platter is available on select flights to/from Alaska, Hawaii, Mexico and the Caribbean as well as sandwich and salad meals.

f your itinerary includes a flight with sandwich and salad meal, you may pre-order your sandwich and salad meal online at least 13 hours before your flight is scheduled to depart, although it is not required. Simply select the View/Change Reservations option from the Reservations Center on nwa.com to select your preference. A Flight Attendant will deliver your sandwich and salad meal in-flight and collect cash payment at that time.

Drinks: Complimentary soft drinks, bottled water and hot drinks are served on all flights.
Premium Drinks: Alcoholic drinks are available for purchase for $5.

FOR FIRST CLASS
Snacks: Northwest will continue to provide complimentary snacks in First Class and on international flights.
Meal Service: Northwest will continue to provide complimentary meals in First Class and on international flights.
Drinks: Complimentary soft drinks, bottled water and hot drinks are available on every flight.
Premium Drinks: Northwest will continue to provide complimentary premium drinks in First Class.


Features

Animals and Pets   Policies and pricing for traveling with an animal and/or pet such as a dog, cat or other household pet.
Northwest welcomes small domesticated dogs, cats and birds in the passenger cabin on all flights within the U.S. (except to Hawaii). Small dogs and cats are also permitted in the passenger cabin between the U.S. and many international destinations. Advance arrangement is required.

Bereavement   In the event of a death in your immediate family, airlines sometimes allow for discounted travel.
Northwest Airlines will require a WorldPerks number in a reservation for the customer to be eligible for discounted one way and roundtrip emergency fares for travel within the 50 U.S. and Canada when travel is due to the hospitalization or death of an immediate family member. Immediate family members are defined as spouse, domestic partners, children (including adopted children), parent, brother, sister, grandparent, grandchild (any step/adopted/half/in-law versions), great-grandparent, niece, nephew, aunt, uncle.

Boarding   Procedure and process for boarding the airplane as established by the airline.
Domestic Flights: Passengers must be checked in at least 30 minutes and on-board at least 15 minutes before scheduled departure time for flights within the US. Exception: Check-in 45 minutes before departure in Atlanta, Denver, Los Angeles, Newark, Tampa and Washington D.C-Dulles and 60 minutes before departure in Las Vegas.

International Flights: Passengers must be checked in at least 60 minutes and on-board at least 30 minutes before scheduled departure time for flights to/from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, and all other International flights

Expectant Mothers   Policies and procedures concerning expectant mothers.
It is commonly recommended that women not fly at all during their last six weeks of pregnancy. Northwest Airlines' policy states that pregnant passengers traveling within 30 days of expected delivery must provide a doctor's statement dated within 72 hours of departure indicating the due date and indicating that air travel does not pose a health risk.

Infant   Policies, features and fees associated with traveling with an infant. Also, potential amenities offered for those flying with an infant.
When traveling with a child under 2 years old within the United States/Puerto Rico/US Virgin Islands and Canada, you have the option to carry the baby in your lap or purchase a separate ticket for an adjoining seat. A separate boarding pass will not be issued for an infant traveling in your lap. However, a boarding pass will be issued for an infant traveling on a separate seat. Children 2 years and older are required to purchase a seat.

A separate ticket is required for infants traveling to all International destinations. In this case, a separate boarding pass is issued for the baby.

Unaccompanied Minors   Policies concerning minors traveling without an adult: unaccompanied minors.
  • Any child age 5 through 14 traveling without an adult 18 years of age or older must participate in the Unaccompanied Minor Program. All rules and fees apply.
  • Children ages 5 through 7 may fly unaccompanied on nonstop, direct flights only, even when traveling with another child age 8 through 17 (no connections that change planes allowed).
  • Children ages 5 through 14 will not be accepted on red-eye flights.
  • Children ages 5 through 14 will not be accepted on the last direct flight of the day.
  • Children ages 8 through 14 will not be accepted on the last connecting flight of the day.
