Baggage Policies
Carry On Policy: American Airlines allows 1 carry ons per passenger. Details: FAA security measures limit customers on all AA flights to one carry-on bag plus one personal item.
Checked Baggage Policy: American Airlines allows 0 carry ons per passenger. Details: Customers who purchased domestic economy class tickets May 12, 2008, through June 14, 2008, may check one bag for free and check a second bag for $25 each way. Customers who purchase domestic economy class tickets on or after June 15, 2008, will be charged $15 each way for the first checked bag and $25 each way for the second checked bag.

Food Service
FOR ECONOMY CLASS
Snacks: Individually-packaged snacks are available throughout the day on more than 1,400 American Airlines U.S., Caribbean and Mexico flights. Snacks are available for $3 and include:
- Great Nut Supply, Co. Nut Blend (4 oz.)
- Mega Bite® Cookie (4 oz.)
- Lay's Stax® Potato Crisps (5.75 oz.)
Meal Service: If you're flying on a U.S., Caribbean or Mexico flight of three hours or longer in the morning, in addition to buying a snack, you can also purchase a fresh light meal for $6. For details and options, visit American Airlines' Menu.
Drinks: Nonalcoholic beverages are complimentary in all classes of service and include Coca-Cola soft drinks among others.
Premium Drinks: Alcoholic drinks are available for purchase for $6. American accepts credit and debit cards.
FOR FIRST CLASS
Snacks: Generally, a snack service will be provided on flights greater than two and a half hours that fall outside of a traditional meal time.
Meal Service: Complimentary food service is offered in First Class on all flights system-wide that have flying times over two hours and that operate within traditional breakfast, lunch and dinner times.
Drinks: Complimentary drinks are provided on all flights, including Coca-Cola products.
Premium Drinks: Complimentary alcoholic drinks are available on all flights.

Features
Animals and Pets
Policies and pricing for traveling with an animal and/or pet such as a dog, cat or other household pet.
Cats and dogs are the only types of pets accepted for travel on American Airlines. Pets traveling in the cabin require a reservation to ensure no more than 7 pets are booked on any single flight. For this reason, it is recommended that you make arrangements in advance by contacting Reservations.

Bereavement
In the event of a death in your immediate family, airlines sometimes allow for discounted travel.

Expectant Mothers
Policies and procedures concerning expectant mothers.
For domestic flights under 5 hours, travel is not permitted within 7 days before and after your delivery date. If you should need to travel within 7 days before or after delivery, a medical certificate is required as well as clearance from our Special Assistance Coordinator.
Pregnant Woman In addition to the information below, please also be aware that a medical certificate is required if you will be traveling within 4 weeks of your delivery date in a normal, uncomplicated pregnancy
Domestic Travel (Not Including Travel Over Water)
For domestic flights under 5 hours, travel is not permitted within 7 days before and after your delivery date. If you should need to travel within 7 days before or after delivery, a medical certificate is required as well as clearance from our Special Assistance Coordinator.
International/Over Water Travel
For international travel or any flights over the water, travel is not advised within 30 days of the due date, unless you are examined by an obstetrician within 48 hours of outbound departure and certified in writing as medically stable for flight. Travel within 10 days of the due date for International travel must have clearance from our Special Assistance Coordinators. Travel within 7 days after delivery requires clearance as well.

Infants under 2 years of age who travel within the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands may be held in an adult's lap at no charge. Please contact Reservations for applicable charges for other countries. AA reserves the right to request documented proof of age for any traveler 2 years of age or younger. Please be prepared to provide documentation (birth certificate, passport, etc.) upon request.

Unaccompanied Minors
Policies concerning minors traveling without an adult: unaccompanied minors.
Children 5 through 7 years of age must travel with another passenger at least 15 years of age or they will be considered Unaccompanied Minors. Unaccompanied Minors in this age range may only travel on flights not requiring a change of aircraft. Children 8 through 14 years of age must travel with another passenger at least 15 years of age or they will be considered Unaccompanied Minors. American Airlines, American Eagle, and AmericanConnection do not accept unaccompanied children when their itinerary includes a connection to/from another airline, including codeshare and oneworld partners.
